Ahuja 5K

My sister and I ran in the University Hospitals Ahuja 5K on Sunday.  We were trying to beat our previous times from about 2 months before.  Little did we know that we would mainly be running uphill and into the sun the whole way.  And not to mention, it was one of the hottest days of the year so far.  With that being said, I ended up walking about 3 times.  I think she walked twice.  I only added about a minute and a half to my overall time.  I was actually pleased with that.  I am still faster than what I ran the YMCA Turkey Trot in back on Thanksgiving Day.  Now we need to get ready for the Johnnycake Jog in July.  We can do the distance, we just need to practice with the hill and the heat.

Addicted

I have realized that I have become addicted to Starbucks!  I am not a coffee drinker, but when I was pregnant with Jude (my 3rd) my husband introduced me to the Java Chip Frappicino.  It has coffee in it, but just enough so I don't really taste it.  I find myself wanting this drink all the time now!  The original drink (grande size) has about 500 calories in it.  But it is so good!  I have discovered that I can get a light version that only has 200 calories total for a grande!  Makes me feel less guilty when I just have to have one, like this morning!  It is always nice to find a lower calorie version of something you love.  And to be honest, the regular version is too sweet for me now.

On another note, my sister and I are running another 5K this weekend.  It is one being put on by the UH Ahuja Medical Center.  My mom and dad are walking it (while pushing my 3 boys in strollers).  My husband is going to run it with us as well.  I am just hoping that the weather holds out.  Looking forward to doing this with my family!

Motivation

What do you do to keep yourself motivated?  How do you find time in the busyness of your lives to workout and eat healthy.  Those 2 alone can be exhausting and expensive!  My husband and I are trying something new.  Doing all of our major grocery shopping for the month in one day.  We know we will still have to go out and get milk and that sort of thing, but we bought the bulk of everything on Sunday.  We are hoping this helps to eat healthier, especially since we won't be going out to eat.  I really hope it works.  I have lost all motivation to eat healthy and work out.  I did however start using MyFitnessPal correctly this week along with my dad and sister and I got up at 4:45 to do a Jillian Michaels DVD.  Now I am sitting at work trying to stay awake!  Being healthy is a lifestyle and has to be a regular rhythm in your life.  I hope I can find a rhythm for eating healthy and working out that fits into my family's busy schedule!

Chicago

This past weekend my family and I went to Chicago to visit my brother and his family.  We were celebrating my nephews first birthday and dedication.  Friday, we decided to head into downtown and walk!  My 2 older boys, my husband and my dad all rode the train into the city.  We met them with 4 strollers and headed out to the Shedd Aquarium.  From there we walked back to Millennium Park and walked around the fountain and the Bean.  And then we walked all the way down Michigan Avenue to the Lego Store.  At the end of the day, I had walked over 22,000 steps and my feet really weren't that sore!  It is nice to know that I can walk for 10 hours and be in shape enough to do it!  The next morning I got up and ran 5 miles on the treadmill in under 50 minutes.  Small victories are still victories!  :)
